Whitestone Capital, a division of Whitestone Companies, acquired the 408-room Renaissance Hotel in downtown Columbus, Ohio. The 22-story hotel is located within walking distance of the Arena District, Greater Columbus Convention Center and the Ohio State Capitol Complex.
“We are excited to add this iconic Columbus hotel to our Whitestone portfolio,” Whitestone Companies CEO Jay Batra said in a statement. “This marks our largest purchase in the city to date and demonstrates our commitment to expanding our presence in the upper-upscale hospitality space.”
The Renaissance has a rooftop pool, two food and beverage outlets, rooftop event space, 23,500 square feet of meeting facilities, and one of the city’s largest hotel fitness centers.
“We have had our eyes on the Renaissance for some time,” Batra said. “With the long-term owner seeking to exit the asset and the significant investment the City of Columbus is making to transform the Gay Street corridor, we knew it was the right time to move forward with this acquisition.”
The property is expected to go through a comprehensive refresh, including new guestroom designs and a reconfigured lobby.
This purchase is Whitestone’s third in the city over the last 10 months, joining the Westin Columbus Great Southern Hotel in March 2025 and a 50,000 square foot office building in Polaris in September 2025, bring its total Columbus area asset to five.
Whitestone continues its busy transaction cycle, completing twelve transitions across the country over the last twenty-four months and plans to move its corporate offices into the new Polaris office building in the second quarter of 2026.
“The synergies between these two recent hotel acquisitions in downtown Columbus will allow us to capitalize on a ‘One Team’ approach to guest service, operational efficiency, and revenue maximization,” said Chuck Groger, chief revenue officer, Whitestone Companies.
With the purchase of the Renaissance, Whitestone is now the largest owner of upper-upscale Marriott products in downtown Columbus, according to the company. Whitestone has selected Crescent Hotels to be the on-site manager for both the Renaissance and the Westin Hotels.
