Common Thread Hotels and its affiliate, PRG Investment & Management—an investment firm specializing in boutique hotels in California—has acquired Hotel Joaquin, a boutique hotel in Laguna Beach, Calif.
Hotel Joaquin underwent a multimillion dollar redesign led by interior designer Robert McKinley in 2019. The hotel—with 22 guestrooms, a signature bar and a saltwater pool—is a two-minute walk from Shaw’s Cove, with sandy beaches and tide pools.
This acquisition marks Common Thread’s 10th hotel in its portfolio, in addition to an 11th in pre-development in downtown Paso Robles.

With Hotel Joaquin, we are fortunate that the property requires no renovation, allowing us to begin focusing on operations immediately and build on the strong foundation already in place.”

Common Thread plans to primarily focus on its operating strategy with Hotel Joaquin. Other California properties in its portfolio include White Water, a Lodge on Moonstone Beach in Cambria; Sands Hotel & Spa in Indian Wells; The Prospect Hollywood; Sparrows Lodge and Holiday House in Palm Springs; and Casa Laguna Hotel & Spa in Laguna Beach. Common Thread’s newest hotel, Herons Lodge in Carmel-by-the-Sea, is scheduled to open this summer.
