San Diego Holiday Inn Express adopts Anacove AI-driven systems

The Holiday Inn Express San Diego South – Chula Vista has implemented AI-powered technologies from Anacove to help enhance operational efficiency, energy management and staff safety.

The 88-room hotel—located near downtown San Diego, the Gaslamp Quarter and the San Diego Zoo—has introduced Anacove Smart Thermostats, Asset Tracking devices and a pilot of Staff Alert Smart Nametags. All of these products are managed through the Anacove Smart Dashboard, a system that provides real-time monitoring of energy use, asset location and staff activity, while generating monthly reports.

“We’ve already noted measurable energy savings and project results in line with our sister hotels,” general manager Victor Carrera said in a statement. “The Smart Thermostats pre-cool rooms before arrival and flag malfunctioning AC units, allowing us to deploy maintenance teams early and reduce costs.”

The hotel has reported lower electricity usage and bills since deploying the system, consistent with IHG Hotels & Resorts’ previous trials showing HVAC energy reductions of 30 percent to 40 percent and return on investment periods of 12 to 14 months. In addition, asset tracking devices have reduced losses and retrieval times for luggage carts and cribs, enabling staff to locate items instantly through the dashboard, according to the company.

Carrera noted that the technology also improves service efficiency. “Remote AC control allows front desk teams to address room comfort issues without sending maintenance, freeing staff for other tasks,” he said. In addition, staff safety has been enhanced with location-enabled name tags, which are currently used by one-third of the 30-member team, according to the company.
