Marriott, LG expand technology collaboration with new guestroom platform

Marriott International and LG Electronics are expanding their technology relationship with a cloud-based platform designed to manage guest room entertainment and connected devices.

The platform is being jointly developed by the companies and is intended to provide centralized management of in-room technology while supporting entertainment, hotel content and room functions through LG smart hotel televisions and set-top boxes. The cloud-based platform is designed to reduce reliance on traditional on-premises video distribution infrastructure.

The platform is intended to enable Marriott teams to monitor device health, performance and status at the individual room, property, brand, group and portfolio levels. The centralized system is also intended to support issue identification, content and application updates and operational monitoring.

The initial pilot will cover 40 Marriott properties in the U.S. and Canada across participating brands. The companies may expand the platform to additional properties in Marriott's global portfolio. Marriott and Seoul, South Korea-based LG also plan to explore extending connected digital experiences and centralized technology management to public and shared spaces within hotels as the collaboration develops.

“Our collaboration with LG reflects Marriott’s commitment to building technology that elevates the guest experience across our portfolio,” Drew Pinto, Marriott International EVP and chief revenue and technology officer, said in a statement. “By combining LG’s connected-device capabilities with Marriott’s hospitality expertise and enterprise platform, we are creating a more seamless, personalized guest room experience while helping hotel teams operate more efficiently.”
