Amazon expands Echo Show hospitality capabilities

During HITEC in Charlotte, N.C., Amazon announced a new suite of Alexa Smart Properties for Hospitality customization options for Echo Show devices deployed in hotel rooms.

According to the Amazon blog, new capabilities include:

  • Persistent Visual Alerts: Hotels can deliver personalized, full-screen alerts directly to guests on in-room Echo Show devices and control when the alerts are dismissed. PVA makes it easier for hotels to give guests more timely alerts instead of relying on verbal reminders or printed materials.
  • Full Rotating Card Panel Composition gives hotels complete, customizable access to the Echo Show home screen. Hotels can show their guests information like restaurants and other amenities, provide recommendations on local attractions and more without other content being interspersed.
  • Branded Shortcuts display a persistent icon on the Echo Show device screen. Guests can tap the icon to directly access the hotel’s custom Alexa skill. For example, hotels can create a “Front Desk” button so guests can easily find and get information through Alexa instead of opting to call with requests and questions.

Amazon also launched a new hospitality collaboration with travel experiences marketplace platform Viator. Guests staying at an Alexa Smart Property hotel can browse and book over 300,000 tours, activities and excursions directly from Echo Show devices in their hotel room.
