IHG, Hyatt, other hotels appoint sales, marketing leaders

A number of hotels announced sales and marketing leaders as June came to a close. 

The Chatwal, New York

The Chatwal, New York, part of Hyatt's Unbound Collection, appointed Matt Tobin its new director of sales and marketing. In his new position, Tobin will oversee all aspects of sales and marketing at The Chatwal, New York, focusing on driving revenues for the hotel and collaborating on marketing partnerships.

Most recently, Tobin was the general manager of Hotel Nyack, a JdV by Hyatt Hotel in Nyack, N.Y. Under his leadership, the hotel’s revenues increased 5 percent and gross operating profits by 22.7 percent in 2023, marking the best financial performance since the hotel’s opening in 2016. Before his tenure at Hotel Nyack, Tobin was the area director of sales and marketing for Bridge Hospitality Group in New York City, where his role included the pre-opening of a 510-key Hyatt Place and the transition of independent properties to Hilton Hotels. 

InterContinental Kansas City

TPG Hotels & Resorts appointed Nathan Wood director of sales and marketing at the InterContinental Kansas City. Wood started his career in Kansas City in 1998 at the Hilton KCI and held positions with Starwood Hotels, John Q Hammons Hotels, Atrium Hospitality and the Branson Convention Center.

He has served on several boards, including the Board of Directors for the Thurber House, Branson (Mo.) Chamber of Commerce & Convention & Visitors Bureau, Downtown Branson Betterment Association, Missouri State University Customer Experience Program and Springfield (Mo.) Convention & Entertainment CID. 

InterContinental San Antonio Riverwalk

​​InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, part of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ luxury & lifestyle portfolio, appointed Stacy Seaborn director of sales and marketing of the InterContinental San Antonio Riverwalk, set to open in summer. Seaborn has more than three decades of experience in the San Antonio area. In her new role, she will be responsible for the overall strategic direction of the property’s sales and marketing efforts. 

Seaborn previously worked at the Hotel Valencia Riverwalk, first as director of catering and conference services and later as director of sales and marketing.

JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa

Marriott International has appointed Clark Albright director of sales and marketing of the Palm Desert (Calif.) Hotel, JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa. Albright has held a variety of sales and leadership positions at California brand properties including the LAX Marriott, Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina, Newport Beach Marriott, Irvine Marriott and the Westin LAX as well as the JW Marriott Las Vegas in Nevada. 

Clark spent more than 10 years as the market sales leader for Arizona and Nevada where he led the sales transformation effort, Starwood Integration and top-line revenue generation of over $500 million for thirty-three Marriott-managed properties. Most recently, Clark was the director of sales at the JW Marriott Camelback Inn where he led the team in a recovery effort that resulted in two back-to-back record-setting years after the worst of the COVID pandemic.

Ocean House Collection

Ocean House Collection, which includes the Ocean House and Weekapaug Inn (both in Rhode Island), appointed Stephanie Leavitt group director of sales and marketing. In her new role, Leavitt will oversee the sales, catering and marketing departments throughout the Collection to maximize revenue in all operational areas. Her responsibilities include leading the team in developing sales and marketing initiatives while curating strategic alliances to positively impact the financial goals of the properties. 

Before joining Ocean House Collection, Leavitt was the opening director of sales and marketing for the Conrad Los Angeles. Before that role, she worked for The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company and held senior sales roles at their properties in Dubai, UAE; Half Moon Bay, Calif: and Bachelor Gulch, Colo. She also was director of sales and marketing at Bardessono and Hotel Yountville in Napa Valley, Calif. 

Renaissance Waterford Oklahoma City Hotel

TPG Hotels & Resorts appointed Katie Emerick director of sales at the Renaissance Waterford Oklahoma City Hotel. 

Emerick joins TPG Hotels & Resorts from Transformation Hospitality Solutions. She has also previously held positions with Aimbridge Hospitality and the Plaza Resort and Spa.

Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua

In Hawaii, the Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua appointed Marcus Cornelious as its new director of sales and marketing. 

Before joining The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua, Cornelious was director of sales and marketing at The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel. He has held director of sales and marketing positions at the Sheraton Grand Chicago; The Gwen, A Luxury Collection Hotel in Chicago; and W Union Square .  

Thompson Zihuatanejo

Thompson Zihuatanejo, a beach resort by Hyatt located in Mexico’s La Playa Ropa, appointed Larry Tsoumas as the new director of sales and marketing. 

Tsoumas has held director-level positions in sales and marketing across several hotels and hospitality groups, including Kerzner International and the One & Only Palmilla in Los Cabos, Mexico, The Peninsula Hotels, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, and Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts. Most recently, he was director of sales and marketing at the Hutton Hotel in Nashville, where he oversaw all aspects of hotel sales and marketing strategies in order to maximize revenue opportunities and property goals.
