Sonesta Ocean Point Resort to renovate suites, lobby spaces

Sonesta Ocean Point Resort St. Maarten is poised to undertake a series of property enhancements beginning in the second quarter of 2026.

Changes to the hotel—which is operated by Sint Maarten-based The Maho Group—will be focused on upgrading accommodations and select public areas while maintaining normal operations. Suite renovations are scheduled for Q2 2026, with completion expected by the end of the quarter, while lobby enhancements are planned for September of 2026.

“Sonesta Ocean Point has always been defined by thoughtful design, authentic Caribbean character, and a deep respect for the guest experience,” Saro Spadaro, president and CEO of The Maho Group, said in a statement. “These enhancements reflect a meaningful investment in our future while preserving the relaxed island elegance our guests value today.”

Planned updates to the hotel’s suites include reconfigured layouts to improve space utilization, new custom furnishings, updated finishes incorporating wood and stone materials and upgraded lighting and fixtures. Additional changes will introduce dedicated seating and dining areas, along with updated décor and artwork. Design plans also emphasize stronger indoor-outdoor connectivity to highlight views of the Caribbean Sea.

Meanwhile, lobby-area improvements will include updates to the front desk and Martin’s Lobby Bar. Work will be phased to limit disruption to guests. Enhancements are expected to include revised layouts, new furnishings, and updated lighting, with the goal of improving circulation and functionality in arrival and social spaces.
