Tactile Surfaces: Twist on a Classic from Luum Textiles

Luum Textiles has released its new collection, Twist on a Classic, the brand’s second launch of the year.

Houndstooth, herringbone, nubby modern wool, boucle texture, two-toned drapery and a large-scale graphic pattern motif were reimagined through scale studies, color combinations and coating technology that make for unique, tactile surfaces.

Hyped Up

Inspired by the contrasting check-and-block shape of houndstooth, Hyped Up turns this traditional pattern up a notch, enlarging the shape with multicolor weaves. Recycled performance yarns create a linen-like slub effect that creates unexpected color combinations with a subtle iridescence when applied to furniture. Hyped Up extends Structured Stripe and Duo Chrome’s product line in a sustainable way, for a holistic interior solution in nine new colorways.

Sgraffito

Inspired by the artisanal technique of scratching away plasterwork to reveal a differently-colored layer beneath, Sgraffito employs a tonal two-color, organic curvilinear pattern with chenille yarns that rise to reveal a hand-chiseled effect that moves vertically and horizontally across the surface. The upholstery’s natural variation can transform groups of furniture, giving each piece a unique feel while maintaining harmony within a space. Designed to minimize waste in upholstery applications and suitable for high-performance spaces, Sgraffito is bleach-cleanable and has a PFAS-free stain repellent.

Wooly Wooly

Like a mid-century modern slubby wool boucle, mixed heathered yarns from a blend of tones to showcase the contrasting relationship between dark and light, creating a nuanced palette. Available in a range of 10 colorways, Wooly Wooly’s enmeshed renewable fibers use wool, cotton, acrylic and polyester.

Herringbone Hybrid

Herringbone Hybrid textile combines the depth of woven textiles with the performance of coated materials. To attain its organic chevron motif, heathered yarns are twisted and woven into a broken twill jacquard pattern, after which a polyester base cloth and a thermoplastic elastomer topcoat is applied. This high-performance upholstery is wipeable, sanitizable and resistant to ink, stains and abrasions and is available in 11 colorways.

Demi Boucle

A multipurpose textile with the feel of handspun, looped-boucle yarn, Demi Boucle combines performance with cleanability. With 100 percent recycled polyester in the warp and weft, its textural surface and color palette can be applied to upholstery, wrapped walls, panels and screens. Demi Boucle’s palette of 18 mainstays range from grounded neutrals to fresh pops, drawing inspiration from the colors of the natural world.

Afterimage

Sharing a lineage with Gaze drapery, Afterimage is a semi-sheer drapery that offers woven, ombre color effects and large-scale striae patterning in vertical spaces. Made of a soft, reversible wool blend, this material creates a back-and-forth between open collaborative spaces and more private offices as one hue blends with another. Afterimage is inherently fire retardant. Designed to be railroaded, Afterimage’s pattern repeats vertically every 27 inches across the textile. Available in six combinations of warms and cools as well as neutrals with brights, Afterimage shapes the outlook of a space by diffusing light into a unique glowing effect.
