A new alliance between Wyndham Hotels & Resorts and Decameron All Inclusive Hotels & Resorts will add nine resorts across Mexico, Panama and Jamaica to Wyndham’s all-inclusive portfolio.
Decameron will continue to own and operate all nine properties, and the Decameron name will remain with the included resorts. “The Decameron brand was built 35 years ago,” said Gustavo Viescas, president, Latin America and the Caribbean at Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. “It's a really well-known brand in the Latin America and the Caribbean region, mainly in the all-inclusive space.” Five Decameron resorts will join the Trademark Collection by Wyndham brand, while four others will join the Ramada by Wyndham brand.
Decameron has more than 7,000 guestrooms in 28 properties across eight countries, said Ximena Gomez, the company’s VP of sales. Of that total, approximately 2,600 guestrooms will be available on Wyndham’s platform. Gomez expects the alliance with Wyndham to raise the brand’s awareness among a wider demographic, particularly from members of the Wyndham Rewards loyalty program in the U.S. and Canada. “We are going to have a very good awareness and position of the brand in the U.S.,” she said.
The partnership will connect Decameron to Wyndham’s marketing, technology and distribution platforms, including Wyndham Rewards. The nine properties will benefit from Wyndham’s technology stack, Viescas said, particularly property-management systems and revenue-management systems. “In addition to that, Decameron, with this partnership, is going to [have] access to new markets or improve their presence in submarkets.”
Wyndham, in turn, will gain an all-inclusive resort presence in several key Latin American and Caribbean markets, including those where the company only has had urban properties. Viescas does not expect the Decameron properties to compete with Wyndham’s existing all-inclusive Alltra brand, he added: “I believe that there is guest and opportunity for all these all-inclusive properties—and even for more.”
For the short term, the two companies are focused on the initial integration of the first nine Decameron resorts to join Wyndham’s platform. Looking ahead, Viescas expects to see more of the remaining 19 hotels take on Wyndham flags. “If we are able to increase the share of the U.S. and Canada market into the Decameron properties, if we are able to increase the [revenue per available room] … for sure, we will be able to include more Decameron inclusive resorts into their partnership.”
Wyndham's all-inclusive portfolio will now have more than 50 resorts worldwide.
