Sonesta International Hotels has opened the new 196-room Sonesta Resort Curaçao following a conversion within the southern Caribbean nation.
The repositioned property—previously known as Livingstone Jan Thiel Beach Resort—includes a variety of accommodations, such as villas, apartments and traditional guestrooms. Owned and operated by Amsterdam-based Corendon Hotels, the hotel overlooks Jan Thiel Beach near Willemstad.
The newly opened property gives the Newton, Mass.-based franchisor another asset in the Dutch Caribbean, having operated hotels in Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao.
“Our vision is straightforward, to create a space where every guest finds their ideal balance of fun and relaxation,” Atilay Uslu, Corendon Hotels & Resorts founder and CEO, said in a statement. “Set in one of Curaçao’s most iconic neighborhoods, surrounded by palm trees, tropical breezes and year-round sunshine, this hotel captures the true spirit of the island. As CEO, I’m proud of our team’s commitment to delivering memorable experiences and exception hospitality, ensuring every stay is as special as the destination itself.”
The Sonesta Resort Curaçao offers an outdoor swimming pool, a 5-star PADI dive center and direct access to Jan Thiel Beach. The resort features a new Italian-inspired restaurant and bar, water sports, a fitness center and spa services.
“The opening of this new Sonesta Hotels, Resorts & Cruises location in Curaçao reflects Sonesta’s broader commitment to continued expansion in Latin America and the Caribbean. We are excited to grow Sonesta’s footprint with this beautiful resort, expanding the portfolio’s strength and brand awareness in a highly sought-after destination,” added Keith Pierce, Sonesta’s co-CEO.
