Hotel Viking—an historic property located in Newport, R.I.—is scheduled to reopen in May of 2026 following a comprehensive renovation coinciding with its centennial year.
The renovation—led by San Francisco-based KHP Capital Partners in collaboration with management firm Pivot and interior design firm Beleco—preserves key architectural elements, including the original 1926 room key cabinet at the front desk. Located in Newport’s Bellevue Avenue district, the 1926 property includes 208 guestrooms and is designed to blend historic character with modern comfort through layered textures, custom furnishings and residential-style interiors.
“As we enter the hotel’s 100th anniversary, we are dedicated to honoring the role Hotel Viking has long played in Newport’s history,” Ben Rowe, CEO & managing partner of KHP Capital Partners, said in a statement. “This next chapter pays homage to the property’s legacy while creating a space where locals and travelers alike can gather, connect and feel at home.”
A new culinary program anchors the hotel’s reintroduction, led by acclaimed Rhode Island native Robert Andreozzi, a two-time James Beard Award nominee, alongside beverage leader Jesse Hedberg. The program introduces four new concepts: Pescadou, a French Riviera–inspired signature restaurant; Cap Club, a rooftop venue celebrating Newport’s sailing culture; the historic Skoal Room, reimagined with a martini-focused program; and Tuck Shop, a café and market offering pastries, coffee and grab-and-go fare.
Wellness remains central to the guest experience with the newly renovated Spa Fjör, which has globally inspired treatments rooted in Balinese and Thai traditions. Amenities include a fitness center, indoor pool, cabanas, infrared sauna and a Himalayan salt wall.
Hotel Viking also offers more than 13,000-square-feet of flexible event space, including the Viking Ballroom, Bellevue Ballroom and multiple meeting rooms. Central to its events program is Kay Chapel, a restored 1859 landmark that accommodates up to 200 guests and continues to serve as a setting for weddings and community gatherings.
