IHG opens InterContinental San Antonio Riverwalk

InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, part of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ luxury and lifestyle portfolio, has opened the InterContinental San Antonio Riverwalk. The 390-room hotel has more than 18,000 square feet of meeting space and four new restaurants and bars.

Owned by Trailbreak Partners in conjunction with Scarlett Hotel Group, the hotel has a rooftop pool,  a 24-hour fitness center and a Club InterContinental Lounge.

Located one mile from the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center and close to the River Walk, the 21-story hotel is within walking distance of many of the city’s attractions, including The Alamo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as The Pearl and La Villita Historic Village. The hotel also provides guests with direct access to a water-taxi landing zone, granting an alternative mode of transportation along the waterways.

The hotel’s 18,000 square feet of event space, directly accessible via the valet area, includes the 8,200-square-foot Pecan Ballroom, conference areas, a boardroom outfitted with the latest A/V technology and 10 meeting rooms that all have built-in food and beverage stations and views of San Antonio.

Designed by Leo A Daly, the overall aesthetic blends midcentury architecture and modern finishes with subtle nods to the organic textures and materials of San Antonio. Plush velvet furniture in pops of color offset the property’s neutral color palette, and the design uses finishes made of brass, marble, dark wood, cognac leather and glass.  An abstract contemporary work of Joan Crawford, an homage to her 1954 American Western film Johnny Guitar, is behind the arrivals desk. The concierge gallery displays local products and artwork as well as highlighting activities, adding a special touch to the hotel's décor and connecting guests to the city.

In conjunction with Heartwood Hospitality, the hotel has four unique restaurant and bar concepts, led by executive chef Andres Farias, who will also oversee creative direction for in-room dining services and catering operations. The establishments are:

  • Cavalier, a ground-floor American-style brasserie that embraces San Antonio's tradition of creative gastronomy with farm-fresh ingredients.
  • Deco Bar, an upscale lobby bar with an extensive craft cocktail menu and shareable plates.
  • Rosebelly Coffee, a cafe for light bites, house-made pastries and locally roasted "What’s Brewing?” coffee.
  • High Praise, opening later this month, is a rooftop bar and restaurant.
