Blue Flag Capital has opened its first hotel in New York with the debut of the Hotel Corduroy, a 29-room boutique hotel in Montauk.

Located on the eastern edge of Montauk, the hotel was developed in partnership with Boston, Mass.-based management company Collared Martin Hospitality. Hotel Corduroy is a redevelopment of the former Sunset Montauk property, originally built in 1983. Interior design was led by Ward + Gray, while Workshop/APD oversaw architectural updates that preserved the site’s three original buildings.

Hotel Corduroy expands Boston, Mass.-based Blue Flag Capital’s portfolio, which also includes properties in Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. The company plans additional East End openings this year, including Faraway Sag Harbor and Oyster Estate in Greenport, as well as the launch of Faraway Jackson Hole.

“Every property we take on is an opportunity to honor what already exists while evolving it for today,” Jason Brown, co-founder and CEO of Blue Flag Capital, said in a statement. “Expanding into Long Island felt like a natural next chapter for us. We couldn’t be more excited to continue our focus on destinations with a strong identity and long-standing demand, where we can thoughtfully reinvest and help restore a deeper sense of place for both guests and the surrounding community.”

The property’s design looks to draw inspiration from Montauk’s surf culture, maritime history and coastal setting, incorporating layered textures, muted tones and vintage furnishings throughout the guestrooms and public spaces. Guestrooms feature custom furnishings, seating areas along exterior corridors and finishes intended to reflect the area’s coastal character.

The lobby includes a retail component offering snacks, beverages, sun care products and apparel. Outdoor amenities include a central lawn area with lounge seating and views of the bay, as well as access to a private beach area at Sunset Beach. Guests are also provided complimentary beach equipment and bicycles for exploring the surrounding area, including the nearby marina.
