Leisure resorts, urban hotels appoint general managers

A number of leisure-focused resorts in popular vacation destinations—as well as urban hotels in major cities—have appointed general managers in recent weeks. Here are some names to know.

The Abbey Resort

The Abbey Resort on Wisconsin's Lake Geneva has appointed Bruce Johnson general manager. Johnson brings more than 30 years of hospitality leadership experience across resorts, hotels and food-and-beverage operations.

Most recently, Johnson was director of dining services and general manager for Sodexo in Wisconsin. His previous leadership experience includes roles with Great Wolf Lodge, Chula Vista Resort & Spa and Timber Ridge Lodge & Waterpark at Marcus Hotels & Resorts. Earlier in his career, he also held positions with Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurant, Bucawas and Renaissance Hotels International.

The Cape, a Thompson Hotel

The Cape, a Thompson Hotel in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, has named Diego Padula general manager, becoming just the second person to hold the role in the hotel's 11-year history.

A native of Uruguay, Padula brings more than 20 years of luxury and lifestyle hospitality experience across seven countries. Most recently, he was general manager of Kimpton Grand Roatán Resort & Spa in Honduras. His previous experience includes working as opening general manager of Soho House Mexico City, opening general manager of Mondrian Mexico City Condesa and opening director of operations for W Dubai Mina Seyahi. Earlier in his career, he worked with brands including W and Le Méridien and was part of the opening team at W Muscat in Oman.

Four Seasons Resort Rancho Encantado

Four Seasons Resort Rancho Encantado in Santa Fe, N.M., has appointed Shannon Schwier general manager. Schwier joins the resort following her most recent role as opening resort manager at Naples Beach Club, A Four Seasons Resort.

A Four Seasons veteran since 2013, Schwier began as director of housekeeping at Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills before advancing to director of rooms. She later held leadership positions at Four Seasons Resort Dubai at Jumeirah Beach, Four Seasons Hotel New York Downtown and Four Seasons Hotel and Residences Fort Lauderdale, where she was opening hotel manager. Most recently, she helped launch Naples Beach Club, A Four Seasons Resort, as opening resort manager.

Hotel Longmont

Hotel Longmont, Colo., has named Hayley Jo Hunt general manager following the property's opening earlier this year.

Hunt began her hospitality career at Johnny Carino's in Longmont before moving into management positions in Black Hawk and later serving as a business development director for a local nonprofit organization. She entered the hotel industry with Origin Westminster, where she rose through five positions in five years. Hunt was also named Tandem Hospitality Group's General Manager of the Year in 2025.

The Pyrmont Curaçao Beach Resort

Ahead of its November opening, The Pyrmont Curaçao Beach Resort, Autograph Collection All-Inclusive, has named Rob de Bekker general manager.

De Bekker brings more than 30 years of Caribbean hospitality experience to the role. Most recently, he was general manager of Grotto Bay Beach Resort & Spa in Bermuda. Previously, he led Santa Barbara Beach & Golf Resort in Curaçao and was director of food and beverage at Hilton Rose Hall in Jamaica. His career has included leadership positions across Curaçao, Aruba, Jamaica and Bermuda.

River Inn of Harbor Town

The River Inn of Harbor Town in Memphis, Tenn., has promoted Amy Nguyen to general manager after eight years with the boutique hotel.

Nguyen joined the property in 2018 and most recently was director of hotel operations. During her tenure, she played a key role in hotel operations, team development and guest experience initiatives. She brings nearly two decades of hospitality experience to the position.

Yotel Washington DC

Yotel Washington DC has appointed James Thomas general manager. Thomas brings more than 26 years of hospitality leadership experience in the Washington, D.C., and Maryland markets.

Before joining Yotel, Thomas was general manager of the Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel. His previous leadership roles include positions at Motto by Hilton Washington DC Downtown, Washington Marriott Capitol Hill, Hampton Inn & Suites Washington DC-Navy Yard and The Westin Washington National Harbor. Throughout his career, he has worked across lifestyle, boutique and full-service hotel operations.
