Dream Inn Santa Cruz, other hotels appoint, promote GMs

Several hotels across the country have appointed general managers in recent weeks. Here are some names to know. 

Brown Palace Hotel, Holiday Inn Express Downtown Denver

Alfonso Perez-Vega is the new GM of both The Brown Palace Hotel and Spa and the Holiday Inn Express Downtown Denver, sister properties managed by Highgate.

Perez-Vega began his career as a bellman and advanced through leadership roles across hotel operations. His background spans major tourism markets including Los Angeles, Austin and Denver, with a strong focus on lifestyle hotel environments. Perez-Vega joined Highgate in December 2023 and was appointed complex hotel manager to The Brown Palace and Holiday Inn Express Downtown Denver in April 2025.

Dream Inn Santa Cruz

Dream Inn Santa Cruz, an oceanfront hotel along California’s Central Coast, has made several key executive appointments

Effective May 1, longtime vice president & general manager Darren Pound will transition from Dream Inn Santa Cruz to become vice president & general manager at Hotel Nia. 

Dan Smart will become GM of Dream Inn Santa Cruz, having previously worked as director of sales and marketing before becoming hotel manager at La Bahia Hotel & Spa. 

Markus Krebs has been appointed area general manager, overseeing both Dream Inn Santa Cruz and La Bahia Hotel & Spa. He joined Ensemble Hospitality in 2024 as general manager of La Bahia. 

Sheraton Waikiki

Tetsuji “Tets” Yamazaki has been appointed general manager of the Sheraton Waikiki Beach Resort following a 15‑year tenure as general manager of Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa in Kaanapali

Yamazaki brings nearly three decades of hospitality experience to his new role. Originally from Tokyo, he began his hotel career there before relocating to Hawaii in 1994. He joined Sheraton Maui in 1997 in his first managerial role and has since held leadership positions across operations, front office, housekeeping, engineering, and food and beverage departments at resorts on Maui, Hawaii Island, and Oahu. Before Sheraton Maui, he was general manager of the former Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Spa.

Thompson Houston

Olivia Johnson is the new general manager of the Thompson Houston, after working as hotel manager during the property’s opening.  

Johnson helped open The Beekman, one of the Thompson Hotel’s in New York. She later joined Hyatt in 2020 to support the opening of Thompson San Antonio as director of rooms. Most recently, Johnson relocated to Houston to support the opening of Thompson Houston as hotel manager. 

Unframed, Autograph Collection

Unframed, Autograph Collection, slated to open in April in Miami Beach, has appointed Alexina Beauperthuy as general manager. She began with Marriott as a manager in training and graduated from the brand’s Women’s Executive Mentoring Program and has spent more than two decades in hotel operations and event management. 

Most recently, Beauperthuy was general manager for Marriott Stanton South Beach, where she led operations for the 226-room property. Before that, she held progressive leadership titles across several Miami properties, including director of food & beverage at The St. Regis Bal Harbour and several senior positions at the former Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay.

Village Camp Flagstaff

In Arizona, Village Camp Flagstaff appointed Ashley Jacobs general manager. She joins Village Camp Flagstaff from MHG Hotels where she was Vice President of Operations, overseeing 12 hotels across multiple states. Before that, Jacobs held multiple leadership roles including area director of sales at Aimbridge Hospitality, area director of sales and marketing at Valor Hospitality Partners and area general manager at Interstate Hotels & Resorts.  

Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills

Hilton has appointed Scott Berger general manager of the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills.

Berger most recently was hotel manager of the newly opened Peninsula London, following leadership training across the brand’s portfolio. Before this, he worked at several properties in Los Angeles, including a regional general manager role in which he oversaw the West Coast portfolio for a luxury hospitality group, guiding operations through the pandemic.

Berger began his career at a hotel in Beverly Hills, where he spent 15 years rising from assistant front office manager to hotel manager.
