Omni Hotels & Resorts breaks ground on 12th Texas property

Omni Hotels & Resorts has broken ground on the Omni Midland Hotel, slated to be the company’s 12th property in Texas when it opens in late 2027.

The milestone was marked with a ceremony held in partnership with developer Midland Downtown Renaissance, a consortium of local Midland investors. The project team includes Dallas, Texas-based HKS Architects as architect of record, with interiors by Looney & Associates. The Design Agency is leading the concept development for the hotel’s food and beverage venues.

Omni Midland is designed to reflect Midland’s heritage and the broader West Texas landscape, drawing inspiration from the region’s history and development following the discovery of the Santa Rita oil well. The property is located within walking distance of the George H.W. Bush Convention Center,

“Omni Midland honors the city’s storied history and reflects the natural beauty of the surrounding land,” Kurt Alexander, president of Omni Hotels & Resorts, said in a statement. “We are grateful to our partners for helping make this vision a reality, and we look forward to becoming the living room for Midland where visitors, guests, residents and business leaders gather for meetings, celebrations and community events for years to come.”

“Downtown Midland has long been the heartbeat of our business community. When the Scharbauer Hotel opened in 1928, it quickly became a hub for commerce, connection and opportunity, serving our city until 1973. The Omni represents the next chapter in that legacy—one that will elevate our ability to host conventions and welcome visitors from across the country,” said Dan Hord, partner at HEDLOC Investment Company, which is partnering in the development of the hotel.

The property will have 143 guestrooms, including a presidential suite, along with three food and beverage outlets: a lobby bar, a coffee shop serving breakfast and lunch and Bob’s Steak & Chop House. Additional amenities include a rooftop pool deck and a full-service spa with sauna, steam room, hot tub, cold plunge, treatment rooms and relaxation areas. An 800-space parking garage is designed to support both hotel and convention center demand.

The hotel will include approximately 16,000 square feet of meeting and event space, including a 5,640-square-foot ballroom. Additional facilities will include an executive boardroom and an outdoor terrace connected to the function space.
