Moffitt Cancer Center and Mainsail Lodging & Development are set to build a 200-room hotel in Tampa, Fla., on Moffitt’s McKinley Campus, scheduled to open in the summer 2028.
The $84 million project aims to meet a growing need for lodging near the cancer center, which treats patients from all 50 states and more than 130 countries. Moffitt generates more than 68,000 room nights annually in the Tampa Bay area and the new property is expected to cover nearly half of that demand, according to the company.
“We are honored to work alongside Moffitt Cancer Center on this important project,” Joe Collier, president and founder of Mainsail, said in a statement. “This hotel will not only support Moffitt’s patients and families but also provide a critical resource for visiting doctors and service providers whose work helps advance Moffitt’s mission.”
The hotel will be affiliated with a major national brand, according to Mainsail, which operates several Marriott-affiliated properties in Florida. It will include guestrooms, meeting and event space, a restaurant and bar and a fitness center.
The announcement comes as Moffitt continues to expand its presence, including the development of its 775-acre Speros campus in Pasco County.
