Hilton signs first Waldorf Astoria in Costa Rica

Hilton has signed the first Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts property in Costa Rica, the new-build Waldorf Astoria Guanacaste, which is currently under construction and expected to open in 2025. The property will have 190 guestrooms and 25 Waldorf Astoria-branded residences. It will emphasize sustainability with architecture that blends into the surroundings and native flora and fauna. All resort vehicles utilized on the property will be electric.

“Costa Rica is a fast-growing and highly sought-after destination that is an ideal place to introduce the world-class personal service of our Waldorf Astoria brand,” Chris Nassetta, president and CEO of Hilton, said in a statement.

Waldorf Astoria Guanacaste is part of the Cacique Costa Rica community, which combines retail, residences and wellness experiences. The property will be close to Guanacaste’s international airport and two nearby beach towns.

Public spaces will include “El Pueblo,” the lobby area and hub; a signature restaurant and bar; a specialty outlet; and a gelato shop. The property will also have a wellness center with a gym, a movement studio, outdoor yoga, and lap and thermal pools. The cenote-inspired spa will have eight treatment rooms as well as three outdoor treatment rooms. The hotel will have a kids center and teen’s club. For groups and events, the property will have approximately 10,000 square feet of meeting and event facilities, including indoor and outdoor space, an event lawn and a ceremonial pavilion for weddings.

Waldorf Astoria Guanacaste will be managed by Hilton and owned by Revolution, Cacique Investors and Garnier & Garnier, the project’s Costa Rican developer. GFG Securities raised equity and debt financing.

Throughout the Caribbean and Latin America, Hilton currently has a portfolio of 200 hotels and a development pipeline of more than 100 hotels.
