Field & Stream Lodge Co., the hospitality platform inspired by the iconic Field & Stream media brand, announces plans for its next two properties: a 151-room basecamp in Bend, Ore., and a 148-room lodge in Big Bear, Calif. Both hotels are slated to open in 2028 and will represent the brand's second and third locations following its debut property in Bozeman, Mont.
The Bend property will be developed through the renovation of the former Shilo Inn. Located on the banks of the Deschutes River, the hotel is less than two miles from downtown Bend and will provide guests with access to the area's outdoor recreation offerings, including fishing, skiing, mountain biking and climbing.
The Big Bear project will transform the former Holiday Inn Resort Big Bear into a reimagined lodge with 148 guestrooms. Located on Village Drive, the property will include a restaurant, meeting space, suites, and an outdoor pool and hot tub. The hotel is within walking distance of Big Bear Lake and offers convenient access to regional attractions, including Big Bear Mountain Resort.
Founded by Starwood Capital Group and AJ Capital Partners, Field & Stream Lodge Co. plans to continue expanding nationally.
"The Starwood Capital Group and AJ Capital partnership reflects a shared passion for hospitality, design, and adventure, as well as a long-term commitment to the Field & Stream Lodge Co. brand," Mac Stormont, senior vice president at Starwood Capital Group, said in a statement. "In Bend and Big Bear, we're excited to work with local communities to create destinations where travelers and local guests can make lasting memories with family and friends."
Stormont said in a statement that the company is focused on partnering with local communities while creating outdoor-oriented destinations that appeal to both travelers and residents.
Bend is one of the nation's fastest-growing outdoor recreation markets. In addition to its riverfront location, the future lodge will provide access to nearby attractions such as Mt. Bachelor and Smith Rock, as well as Bend's outdoor lifestyle brands, breweries and downtown amenities.
Big Bear, located in the San Bernardino National Forest about a two-hour drive from Los Angeles, is a year-round mountain destination. Winter recreation centers on Alterra-owned Big Bear Mountain Resort, while warmer months bring boating, watersports, mountain biking and access to more than 100 miles of hiking and biking trails.
"Bend and Big Bear both have the same qualities that drew us to Bozeman; they are towns built around getting outside with true, year-round adventure in every direction," said Scott Ebbott, principal at AJ Capital Partners. "We're seeing outdoor recreation continuing to pull more travelers out of cities and into towns like this, so we're looking to build with the same approach we had for our first lodge. Our hotels are rooted in place and created for outdoor travel seekers of every kind, including families, first-timers, seasoned adventurers and everyone in between."
Field & Stream Lodge Co. said each property will reflect the destination's local character through its design and hospitality offerings while incorporating elements of the broader Field & Stream brand. The company aims to expand access to outdoor experiences through accommodations designed for travelers seeking adventure-focused destinations.
