McKibbon Hospitality unveiled the formation of the development- and renovation-focused McKibbon Places today. McKibbon Hospitality will continue developing and renovating hotels for its owners and investors, but is consolidating these services under the new McKibbon Places name to strategically market its third-party services to new owners and developers.
McKibbon’s leaders said they felt the time was right to form McKibbon Places so that it could better marshal resources and become more aggressive in the development field.
“After years of developing our own hotels, we realized the opportunity to create a new kind of development company, one also focused on helping other hotel owners realize their unique vision,” Chairman John McKibbon said in a statement.
Erik Rowen leads the new Atlanta area-based company as president. Rowen joined McKibbon in 2003 as product manager and served as VP of development for many years. He has managed more than 35 new-build projects for a range of hotel brands.
“Our seasoned team is proud to play a vital role in new hotel development and renovation projects with decades of experience and dozens of projects under their belts while we continue to grow our reputation with our own development and renovation projects,” Rowen said in a statement.
McKibbon Places has several projects in progress or in the development pipeline, including the McKibbon-owned Kimpton Hotel Arras in Asheville, N.C. The mixed-used project includes 128 guestrooms, 54 condos, two restaurants, retail space and a parking deck. It also will break ground on two new McKibbon-owned developments in Florida later this year: the 145-room Hyatt House Tampa Airport Westshore and the 156-room Hyatt House Orlando Airport.
Additionally, McKibbon Places is offering third-party services on multiple new-build developments, including a dual-brand Residence Inn by Marriott/Courtyard by Marriott on Jekyll Island, Ga. On this specific project, the group is providing its developer, LNW Hospitality, with construction-management services. Work on the four-story, 209-room project began in June.
McKibbon Places is in the middle of several owned and third-party renovation projects. These include the Hampton Inn & Suites Orlando Airport, a Homewood Suites and Hampton Inn & Suites in Bonita Springs, Fla., and a Four Points by Sheraton in Huntsville, Ala.
