Accor plans second Fairmont for Calgary, Alberta

Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, part of the Accor portfolio, has partnered with development group Truman to build a new 225-room Fairmont hotel in downtown Calgary, Alberta, in late 2031.

The design concept for the project will be announced—and the regulatory approvals process will be initiated—later this quarter.

Fairmont Calgary will be part of the Stampede Park transformation project, a revitalization of Calgary’s Culture and Entertainment District centered around the government-funded $500 million expansion of its BMO Centre, completed in 2024. The new BMO facility includes Western Canada's largest convention facility alongside infrastructure upgrades, new public spaces and improved transit access to attract more events and visitors to the area.

Beyond the guestrooms, the property also will include 100 Fairmont-branded residences. Other facilities will include a spa and wellness concept as well as meeting and event spaces.

“We are honored to play a role in this incredible new property at such a pivotal moment in Calgary’s development,” Omer Acar, CEO, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, said in a statement. “Adding a second property in this flourishing city where the beloved Fairmont Palliser currently resides will be a significant achievement, and reinforces Fairmont’s leadership position in Western Canada, as well as strengthens our long-term brand commitment to Calgary as a destination. Fairmont Calgary will become an exciting new social hub for the local community, hotel guests and residents alike, blending both tradition and modernity.”

“This investment underscores our shared confidence in Calgary’s future,” Truman President George Trutina said. “Fairmont Calgary will contribute meaningfully to the city’s economy, vibrancy, and its growing reputation as a global destination for business, tourism, and luxury living.”

Calgary reported more than 8.7 million visitors in 2025, with expectations for more in 2026 due to increased conferences and international travel.
