Meliá Hotels International plans to open ZEL Cozumel this fall as part of the repositioning of the former Meliá Cozumel resort.

The project marks the first ZEL lifestyle resort in Mexico and the brand’s second property in the Americas following the opening of ZEL Punta Cana in 2025. The ZEL brand was developed in partnership with tennis icon Rafael Nadal.

Located along a 1,000-foot beachfront on the island of Cozumel, the all-inclusive resort will feature 209 guestrooms and suites, including beachfront accommodations and a limited collection of Casa ZEL suites. The property is located in Cozumel’s northern hotel zone near the airport and downtown San Miguel.

“ZEL represents our vision of hospitality inspired by the Mediterranean way of life, one that celebrates well-being, gastronomy and meaningful connections,” Gabriel Escarrer, chairman and CEO of Meliá Hotels International, said in a statement. “Cozumel offers an extraordinary natural setting and a vibrant culture that aligns perfectly with the spirit of our brand, and we are excited to welcome guests to experience it through ZEL Cozumel.”

Food-and-beverage outlets at the resort will include an international buffet restaurant, Volcán steakhouse, and the beachfront Parda Beach Club. The resort will also include two swimming pools, a wellness area, AUA Spa, a fitness center and programming focused on group wellness activities including yoga and meditation.

Guests will have access to nearby attractions including Punta Sur Ecological Park and San Gervasio Archaeological Site, as well as ferry access to Playa del Carmen along the Riviera Maya. Cozumel is also scheduled to host several endurance and sporting events in 2026.
