ALPS Group of Hotels is redeveloping the former Four Points Sheraton in San Diego into The Goldfinch Hotel, a Marriott Tribute Portfolio Hotel.
Construction is underway with the hotel scheduled to reopen in early 2027. The Carlsbad, Calif.-based hospitality company acquired the 20-acre property in 2023 and is repositioning the hotel as part of a broader redevelopment strategy focused on transforming underutilized hospitality assets. Originally built in 1987, the California property has operated in Kearny Mesa for nearly four decades.
The redevelopment will include 223 renovated guestrooms, more than 20,000 sq.-feet of indoor and outdoor meeting and event space, an executive nine-hole golf course, a redesigned pool, a signature restaurant and a speakeasy. The project team includes Starck Architecture + Planning, Atwater Studio, McCullough Landscape Architecture, Grizzly and Level 3 Construction.
“When we looked at this property, we didn’t just see an opportunity to renovate a hotel. We saw an opportunity to tell the story of this neighborhood in a new way,” Saahil Khandwala, owner and operator of ALPS Group of Hotels, said in a statement. “By drawing inspiration from Kearny Mesa’s history and heritage, we’re creating a place that feels rooted here and gives both neighbors and travelers a reason to return.”
